To lead the recruitment process for Partners and provide a strategic advisory support on the recruitment of associates and staff for the 4 UK Offices and assist with legal recruitment in Asia, Europe and the Middle East, as required.

The role will work closely with the Chief HR Officer and HR Directors, to ensure recruitment needs are aligned with business requirements. The role will work alongside key stakeholders within the business including the Managing Partner for EMEA, Office Managing Partners, Practice Group Leaders, the Legal Personnel Committee and the HR team to plan and source suitable candidates in accordance with business needs.

To manage strategic and opportunistic recruitment opportunities in line with firm growth plans.


Although the home office of this role is flexible, regular travel throughout the UK and Europe is expected. Travel further afield may be required from time to time. Visibility with key stakeholders will be incredibly important.

Key stakeholders include – HR, EMEA Managing Partner, Office Managing Partners, Practice Group Leaders, Sector Heads and the Legal Personnel Committee.


Lateral Hire Process

  • To manage the recruitment process for Partner recruitment in the UK and assist with Partner and Associate recruitment in Europe and the Middle East.
    • Strategically working alongside HR Business Managers to to plan and deliver resourcing requirements with the Practice Groups and Offices, ensuring there is a joined up approach at all times.
    • Assisting the departments in drafting the business cases as part of the recruitment process to ensure internal compliance.
    • Maintain excellent relationships with the agency PSL to ensure we are first choice for people seeking a move.
    • Managing the entire recruitment process once the live vacancy has been approved, from reviewing CV’s, arranging interviews, provision of feedback and the offer/on-boarding process.
    • Leading active Headhunting projects and identifying senior targets in the market.
  • Ensuring all preferred suppliers have signed the Recruitment Terms and Conditions in accordance with GDPR before instructing them on any live vacancy or opportunity.
  • This includes acceptance of speculative CV’s.
  • Negotiating on agency fees and terms for new agents, in-line with the Recruitment Terms and Conditions.
  • Management of all recruitment agents to ensure compliance with the Firm’s terms and conditions, including use of the Firm’s recruitment portal, ViRecruit.
  • Maintaining strong agency relationships across the UK and as required in other jurisdictions.
  • Reviewing the PSL regularly to ensure the agents are working with us and sending suitable candidates.
  • Identify, report and advise on recruitment KPIs, such as reducing time to hire, conversion rates and recruitment costs.
  • Research, implement and manage alternative recruitment sources, including social media, direct headhunting and other sources to ensure we target the best and most cost effective routes for candidates.
  • Regularly hold recruitment briefings to ensure the PSL are fully briefed on the firm.
  • Development of recruitment materials to promote our brand, values and vacancies within the external recruitment market.
  • Managing the process for searches/headhunting agreements and ensuring the instructed search firm and Partners are always fully in the loop.
  • Networking with competitor firms to ensure that we have the necessary market information.
  • Management of the careers page for the firm website and the intranet for internal purposes.

  • Experience of headhunting and making direct approaches to candidates is essential.

  • Background of working either in or with Professional Services firms.
  • Will challenge processes and procedures where appropriate to recommend improvements.
  • Not afraid to ask questions to ensure all processes are in accordance with Firm requirements.


  • Postgraduate CIPD Qualification or equivalent postgraduate recruitment qualification.
  • Experience of using an online recruitment portal is essential.
  • Experience of working with Word, Excel and Microsoft Outlook is essential.
  • Experience of working with PowerPoint is desirable.
  • Knowledge and understanding of social media and the opportunities it provides for recruitment purposes, including employer branding and candidate acquisition.
  • Experienced head-hunter with excellent knowledge of the legal market.


The successful candidate will have experience of recruiting at senior management level, as well as having strong interviewing and interpersonal skills with a disciplined approach to systems and administration. Professional Services recruitment experience is essential, ideally experience of working in a large firm with multiple offices.

Experience in social media attraction methods is essential as well as being able to demonstrate an excellent network of contacts within the industry.
